PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT
POSITION SUMMARY:
A physician assistant may provide medical/surgical services delegated! to him/her by the supervising physician(s) when such services are with! in his/her skills and within the current scope of practice of the supervising physician/alternate supervising physician and are provided under the supervision and direction of the supervising/alternate supervising physician.
MINIMUM EDUCATION:
New graduates will be expected to become certified (within 12 months of employment) and will then maintain their certification throughout their employ with the system.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
Work requires the interpersonal skills necessary to educate patients and their families as well as provide support during a crisis, deal effectively with physicians, and provide training and education to residents, medical students, and nurses. Work requires analytical ability to assess condition of patient based on physical examination, and appearance and laboratory and related clinical data; develop Patient care plans and monitor progress toward goals; and recognize and initiate emergency interventions as app! ropriate.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
The Physician Assistant Practice Act of 1987 states that a physician assistant is a non-physician who has been certified by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants and performs Procedures under the supervision of a physician as defined in the Act. Certification through examination is sought after graduation from a program which is accredited by the Committee on Allied Health, Education, and Accreditation of the American Medical Association.
NURSE PRACTITIONER POSITION SUMMARY:
The Nurse Practitioner (NP)
is an advanced practice nurse with specialty training in nursing with a focus on the family practice patient population.
The NP role is an integrated one which includes clinical, educational, and research components.
The NP works in collaboration with physicians, nurses and other health care providers to actively coordinate the compl! ex care of pediatric/adult/geriatric populations The NP will coordinate! the care of the patients assigned with the family practice physicians.
The NP will oversee the immediate needs of patients as consulted by the admitting physician.
The NP will follow an established panel of patients along with the family practice physicians.
The NP will make daily rounds, order tests and treatments and medications as appropriate.
The NP will assist with the discharge process to move patients through the length of stay in a timely manner.
The NP will function in a consultative role to the bedside nurse.
MINIMUM EDUCATION:
Master's Degree in nursing.
Graduate of a certified Nurse Practitioner Program.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
3-5 years of recent nursing experience with related patient population.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
1-2 years of advanced practice nursing
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:
Current advanced practice nurse license! in the State of
Illinois

Certification as an adult nurse practitioner or acute care nurse practitioner.
Allied health professionals, Category I privileges through the medical staff office at Saint Anthony Medical Center, within 1 year of employment. Current American Heart Association HealthCare Provider BLS CPR or approved equivalent (must include infant through adult, one and two-man rescuer, use of AED, and choking with hands-on CPR skills return demonstration, and must be pre-approved by Org Dev/Human Resources) completed prior to employment and ACLS certification prior to employment.
