The Registered Nurse in the Associate Role is responsible for utilizing the nursing process to provide individualized nursing care. The nurse assumes the responsibility for the outcome of nursing care during a specified work period. The nurse receives assistance from the full scope of nursing expertise. The nurse functions in structured and unstructured health care settings described as a geographic and/or situational environment that may not have established policies and procedures. The nurse utilizes independent nursing judgment when integrating health care. The nurse has knowledge of and utilizes age-specific structured care methodologies, such as protocols/integrated clinical pathways/guidelines/standards of care relating to the overall health care needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric patients.
Must be able to establish priorities. Following a competency-based orientation, competent performance is expected. Within six months must have strong flexibility and organizational skills. Has a knowledge of and uses appropriate age-related protocols relative to the emotional, physical, psychological and spiritual needs of patients and families throughout the life span. Must be able to demonstrate independence, assertiveness and critical thinking when working with various patient populations and co-workers. Must be able to adapt to multiple care settings. Must be knowledgeable about reimbursement mechanisms for services provided
When students are providing patient care, treatment, and/or services as a part of their training, any/all employees may be asked to supervise the students.
Required Skills
Must be licensed by South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa as appropriate to site. Driver’s license.
Required Experience
Graduate from a State Board of Nursing approved school of nursing.
