Provide education for CKD patients regarding options of treatments. Reports to As Assigned Education, Experience and Skills Requirements One year of clinical nursing experience is preferred. Must have basic knowledge of dialysis and apheresis treatments.Requires current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice. CNN preferred. Basic Life Support Certification required. Licensure/Certification Requirement Requires current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice. CNN preferred. Job Specific Competencies Observes and follows the duly adopted standards, policies, directives, and orders of the Board of Nursing as they may relate to the registered nurse. Preceptor: Demonstrates ability to serve as a preceptor when assigned, including introducing new associates to the service area, communicating and reinforcing core and job specific expectations, validating initial competency, assessing learning needs, serving as a resource, and providing feedback. Charge Nurse: Demonstrates ability to function in a Charge Nurse role when assigned, including providing leadership and support to staff, serving as a resource, assessing resource needs, providing feedback to manager/coordinator as needed, and collaborating with others to address service area and health system needs. Performs dialysis vascular access procedures. Provides hemodialysis treatment and related cares to meet expected outcomes. Safely operates dialysis and water treatment equipment. Serves as a liaison between the patient, physician and other caregivers. Role Specific Competencies Demonstrates proficiency in providing peritoneal dialysis training and followup care to meet expected outcomes, utilizing PD equipment and supplies, according to approved policies and procedures. Demonstrates ability to assess patient's readiness and ability to learn and provide education to patients and families. Demonstrates knowledge of PD theory, equipment and practices. Demonstrates ability to serve as a liaison between the patient, physician and other caregivers. Blood Exposure This position is classified as a Category I position under OSHA guidelines with high risk of exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials.
