Hours: Monday - Friday, 8a-5p.
The Licensed Practical Nurse functions within the scope and stand! ards of nursing practice as outlined in the South Dakota Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules. The Sanford Nursing Practice recognizes the Scope and Standards of Practice (2010) and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements (2010) as published by the American Nurses Association as the foundation for nursing care delivery. Additionally, the LPN adheres to organization’s administration’s predefined scope of practice guidelines.
The scope of the LPN practice contributes to the nursing diagnosis of human responses to actual or potential health problems of individuals or groups who provide preventative, restorative, and supportive care through health teaching, counseling, case finding, and referral. Under the direction of the provider or RN, the LPN may supervise, delegate, evaluate, and teach health and nursing practice; which may require specialized knowledge, judgment, and skill based upon the principles of the biological, physiological an! d behavioral sciences, and for which the LPN bears responsibil! ity and accountability as part of the health care delivery team. The LPN may assist with tests and procedures within the scope of practice for the Licensed Practical Nurse. The LPN performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Clinic Operations or designee.
The LPN in Diabetes and Thyroid participates in utilizing the professional nursing process to provide individualized nursing care for the adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients seeking diagnostic consultation and advanced therapies for endocrine and metabolic disorders in an ambulatory setting.
The Diabetes and Thyroid patient population consists of but is not limited to newly diagnosed type I and type II diabetics, low testosterone, growth hormone deficiency, thyroid cancer, osteoporosis, and other endocrine disorders.
The LPN participates in coordinating care, patient screenings, patient education, triage, and various other medical interventions. A sampling of some of the specialize! d clinical skills performed at Diabetes and Thyroid include, but are not limited to, contribution to age related patient assessment and intervention, IV therapy, sterile field preparation, and endocrine tolerance testing.
Following a competency based formal orientation, clinical competence is expected. Refer to care center specific self-assessment orientation skills checklist for a delineation of specific skills and procedures performed.
Required Skills
Completion of State Board approved LPN program. Prefer one year of clinical experience.
Currently licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse with applicable State Nursing board and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges. Functions within the legal scope of practice.
