The Social Worker for this position is responsible for outreach services to homeless veterans in communities and rural areas outside the main Medical Center campus and will operate separately from the the main facility. Responsibilities for this position are performed in a broad multi-community and rural setting. Assignments involve providing continuing clinical social work services at field loca! tions and in the Medical Center. This work typically requires extensive! coordination of services with a wide range of veterans and providers.

The Social Worker makes assessment of and treatment plans for homeless veterans. Duties include but are not limited too:

Plans, develops and maintains a network of relationships with community resources and other advocates for the homeless population.

Interviews potential clients, confirms eligibility and attempts to complete a psychosocial assessment.

Provide and document the patient's ongoing care

Establish an ongoing clinical relationship with the client

Present Veterans needs and progress to an Interdisciplinary Team

Understand the range of treatment options and skills needed for adult patients including their physical limitations, psychological needs and age associated illnesses and conditions.

Contributes to policy formulation

Participate in the facility Social Work on-call program on a rotating basis, after one year o! f employment

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm

Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting (15-44 pounds); moderate carrying (15-44 pounds); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking; standing; near vision correctable at 13" to 16"; hearing (aid permitted); emotional stability. License to drive a motor vehicle.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY : Applicant must be a U.S. citizen, must be proficient in written and spoken English.

LICENSED: Must be licensed or certified at the Master's level to independently practice social work in a state.

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT FOR ALL GRADES : Must possess a masterÂ's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Educati! on (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy st! atus do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the masterÂ's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to the CSWE website ( http://www.cswe.org/Accreditation/Accredited-Programs.aspx ) to verify if that social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a master of social work. (A n official college transcript will be required before being hired).

GS-9 is the entry level grade for the GS-185 social work series and is used for social workers with less than one year of post-MSW experience and for social workers who are not yet licensed or certified at the independent practice level. Social workers at the GS-9 level are working toward completion of prerequisites for licensure or certification.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-11 LEVEL : Requires one year of professional social work experience equivalent to the GS-9 level,! under qualified social work supervision. This experience must have been in a clinical setting and must have demonstrated the potential to perform advanced assignments independently. (A clinical setting is a medical center, clinic - medical or psychiatric, residential treatment center, or any other type of facility where social work participates in a collaborative treatment and is identified with the medical profession.) Experience must have been obtained AFTER earning a Master's Degree in Social Work.

SUBSTITUTING EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE AT THE GS-11 LEVEL : To meet the required specialized experience for the GS-11 level, applicant may substitute a doctoral degree in social work from a school of social work. You must submit a transcript to receive credit for this education.

Creditable Experience:
(1) Knowledge of Current Professional Social Work Practices. To be creditable, experience must have required the use of knowledge, skills, abi! lities, and other characteristics associated with current professional ! social work practice. Experience and education satisfying this requirement must be active professional practice, which is paid/non-paid employment as a professional social worker, as defined by the appropriate state licensing board.

(2) Quality of Experience. Experience is only creditable if it is obtained following graduation with a masterÂ's degree in social work and if it includes work as a professional social worker directly related to the position to be filled. Qualifying experience must also be at a level comparable to social work experience at the next lower level.
