The Clinic Registered Nurse triages phone calls; assures lab work, tests, and procedures are scheduled according to standard operating procedure; obtains meaningful history on patients, identifying changes or high risk situations in patient’s condition and takes appropriate actions as necessary. The Wound Clinic Registered Nurse participates in the patient’s plan of care in collaboration with the physician and other multi-disciplines according to standard operating procedure. Patients/customers cared for include infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatric.

Primary Job Duties:

  • Triages phone calls taking accurate and complete messages for the provider and relaying information in a prompt manner, and documenting phone calls in the electronic medical record (EMR) as appropriate.
  • Performs duties of a Registered Nurse, functioning within nursing practice standards.
  • A ssures lab work, tests, and procedures are scheduled according to standard operating procedure.
  • Obtains meaningful history on patients and notes same in the EMR.
  • Completes assessments in determining or evaluating patient’s physical complaints according to standard operating procedure.
  • Identifies changes or high risk situations in patient’s condition and takes appropriate actions as evidenced in reporting and documentation.
  • Participates in the development of the patient’s plan of care in collaboration with the physician and other multi-disciplines according to standard operating procedure.
  • Prepares patients for exams and/or procedures and assists with procedures per provider request.
  • Administers medication using the 5 rights and according to standard operating procedure.
  • Documents in the EMR all authorized medication refills and the instructions given to optimize patient/patient’s family understanding.
  • Provides patient/patient’s family with appropriate education based on identified needs to optimize patient/patient’s family understanding.
  • Assesses patient’s/patient’s family knowledge and understanding of patient teaching instructions.
  • Reviews all test results with the physician and notifies patient, as instructed.
  • Coordinates and completes referrals to outside facilities/agencies according to standard operating procedure.
  • Notifies Manager of any potential problems in regard to patient complaints, unsatisfactory outcomes, special needs or requests.
  • Demonstrates the ability to adjust own schedule to meet fluctuation in workload and communicates this information to appropriate staff.
  • Completes all charting and documentation according to standard operating procedure.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of location, set-up and use of equipment used for assigned area.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED: Required:
  • Registered Nurse.
  • Licensed by the North Dakota Board of Nursing (if a resident of North Dakota or changing residence for longer than 30 days) or licensed by a member of the “Compact State Agreement” if not a North Dakota resident. (If changing residence from a Compact State to North Dakota, will need to obtain a North Dakota license within 30 working days of obtaining new residency.)
  • Nurses who provide nursing care to patients calling from Minnesota will need to be licensed by the Minnesota Board of Nursing or will obtain their Minnesota license within eight (8) weeks from their first day of work (telephone calls from patients calling from Minnesota can not be taken from any nurse unless they have obtained their Minnesota license).
  • Past nursing experience in a health care setting.
  • Demonstrates proficient computer skills with a high degree of accuracy for a variety of computer-related tasks.
