The primary purpose of the position of Infection Prevention & Control manager is to plan, organize, develop, and manage the infection prevention and control (IPC) program, provide integration of the IPC program across Sanford Health-Health Services Division, manage risk management activities related to IPC, and provide direct supervision over the IPC personnel. The manager will also work directly and collaboratively with Sanford Health site infection control practitioners. The integrated IPC program will be established and maintained in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern such functions for Sanford Health. Sanford Health entities integrated under the manager include but are not necessarily limited to Sanford Medical Center, Sanford Clinic and Sanford Health Network. Facilities may include but are not limited to acute care, clinics, outpatient settings, ambulatory surgery centers, long-term care facilities, and alternate health care settings. This position delegates the administrative authority, responsibility and accountability necessary for carrying out assigned duties to establish and maintain an effective infection, prevention and control program. The immediate supervisor is the Director of Health & Safety, but work assignments may also be directed by the Executive Director of Clinical Performance, Hospital Epidemiologist/Patient Safety Officer, Infection Control Chairperson or Infection Control Committee to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.
The RN functions within the scope and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the South Dakota Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules. The Sanford Nursing Practice recognizes the Scope and Standards of Practice (2004) and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements (2001) as published by the American Nurses Association as the foundation for nursing care delivery.
When students are providing patient care, treatment, and/or services as a part of their training, any/all employees may be asked to supervise the students.
Required Skills
Must hold current, unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of South Dakota or have multi-state licensure privileges. Additional required RN licenses are required for Minnesota and Oklahoma. Must hold current board certification in Infection Control (CIC) as verified by the Certification Board of Infection Control & Epidemiology, Inc.
Required Experience
Graduation from a NLN or AACN accredited nursing program is strongly preferred. Graduate from an approved nursing program is acceptable. Prior work experience must include a minimum of 3 years clinical experience in a healthcare field, and 3 years experience practicing infection control. Work experience in occupational health is desired. Education and/or experience in applying principles of adult learning are desired. Management experience is preferred.
