Registered Nurse - NICU

The Registered Nurse in the Associate Role is responsible for utilizing the nursing process to provide individualized nursing care. The nurse assumes the responsibility for the outcome of nursing ! care during a specified work period. The nurse receives assistance from the full scope of nursing expertise. The RN in the NICU cares for critically ill infants and their families. This nurse has knowledge of, and utilizes appropriate age-related patient care protocols relative to the emotional, physical, psychological and spiritual needs of neonatal patients and families. The RN functions in a structured care setting where policy and procedures are established. Requires flexibility and independence. Assists multidisciplinary team to coordinate and provide continuity of patient care.
Following a competency based formal orientation, competence and performance is expected. Refer to department specific self-assessment checklist for specifics. Must be able to provide nursing care for critically ill infants and their families. Has knowledge of and uses appropriate age-related patient care protocols relative to the emotional, physical, psychological and spiritual needs o! f neonatal patients and families. Must be able to communicate ! with other healthcare team providers and parents.
The RN functions within the scope and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the South Dakota Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules. The Sanford Nursing Practice recognizes the Scope and Standards of Practice (2004) and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements (2001) as published by the American Nurses Association as the foundation for nursing care delivery.
Required Skills
Currently licensed with the applicable State Nursing Board and/or possess multistate licensure privileges as required by position. Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications (i.e. - ACLS, PALS, TNCC, NRP, etc.). Basic Life Support (BLS) must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained during the length of employment per American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines. Must be certified in Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) within one year of ! hire date and maintained during the length of employment per AHA guidelines. Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC), a one-time course, must be taken before end of second year of hire date. Functions within the legal RN scope of practice.
Required Experience
Graduation from a NLN or AACN accredited nursing program is strongly preferred. Graduate from an approved nursing program is acceptable. Bachelorâs degree in Nursing strongly preferred.
