This position is located at the Indian Health Service, Aberdeen Area Rosebud Service Unit, Clinical Services, Medical Staff in the Emergency Room. The purpose of this position is to provide direct and comprehensive primary, preventative and therapeutic medical care to individuals across the lifespan. This hospital is a 35-bed comprehensive healthcare facility, w! hich provides preventative and curative services to approximately 10,000 beneficiaries covering an area if about 1,500 square miles. This position provides health care to the outpatient department.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Assesses plans and provides direct and comprehensive primary, therapeutic and preventative medical care to individual geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric and infant patients and their families.
- Orders and/or performs screening and diagnostic tests and procedures (lab studies, x-rays, electrocardiograms, audiograms, pulmonary functions tests, etc.).
- Makes diagnosis and decisions concerning medical and nursing care of patients, formulates and implements plan of care which may involve various treatment modalities, prescribing medications, consultation with other health care providers, and referrals.
- Provides direct physical and psychological care in emergencies in order to maintain life, provide comfort, reduc! e stress and enhance coping ability and summons physician when appropri! ate.
- Teaches and counsels patients and family on disease prevention and health maintenance techniques. Promotes responsible behavior and implements plans to further enhance patient/family understanding of medical problems.
- Collaborates with other health care professionals to develop treatment protocols, standards of practice and policies. Participates in ongoing quality improvements activities, including audits, chart reviews, development of review criteria, development of plans for improving performance and evaluation of effectiveness of actions in improving performance.
- Serves as a consultant and provides technical assistance to other health care providers and staff.
INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
ALL Applicants MUST meet the following basic requirements for all grade levels:
- Graduation from a physician assistant educational program, accredited by! the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, at a college, university, or educational institution that is accredited by an accredited body or organization recognized by the Secretary, U.S. Department of Education.
- Successful completion of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination; must maintain status as a certified physician assistant, including completion of all requirements for continuing medical education (CME) and re-certification.
TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: Federal status applicants must have completed at least 52 weeks of service in a position no more than one grade lower than the pos! ition to be filled. This is usually is used in reference to the length ! of time needed to satisfy the promotion requirements of the next highest level. If selected under the Excepted Service Examining Plan, individuals may be appointed without regard to time-in-grade requirements.
