The utilization review specialist has the task of reviewing all admissions to the facility and confirms patients are getting the most appropriate care after r! eviewing the admission order, clinical information, and the treatment plan. The utilization review specialist will preauthorize and/or precertify admissions according to the patient's insurance, providing reviews and clinical updates as needed. A associate degree in healthcare related field or a bachelor's degree (RN) is preferred. LPN may be considered. A bachelors or masters degree in related healthcare field such as respiratory therapy or social work may be considered.Two years experience in utilization review or case managements experience or a minimum of one year experience in discharge planning from a hospital is preferred.
